CALL FOR MUSIC 2017 2-Channel Fixed Media Electronic Works

VU 2 is _not_ a symposium.

VU 2 will be a one day mini-marathon of 2-channel fixed media works performed in the Jim Santy Auditorium at the Park City Library.

VU 2 will take place on July 18, 2017, and is an all day FREE concert, open to the public and will somehow, someway, be live-streamed to the entire world.

VU 2 will feature historical electronic music works, curated works, premieres, and works chosen from our CALL FOR MUSIC.

If your work is chosen, you do not have to attend VU 2 in person and there is no submission fee for applying or attending.

so, here goes…

THE VU 2 CALL FOR MUSIC 2017

2-Channel (or mono)

Fixed Media Electronic Works

No Video

Any Length

Vu 2 will feature concerts based around three curated calls and one open call.

Call 1: New Music For Jim Santy Auditorium

Works composed specifically for performance in the Jim Santy Auditorium, a 400 seat hall atop the Park City Library that has a large focused sound, thanks to our friends at the Sundance Film Festival.

Call 2: Blue Skies

Works that have to do with the color blue, or are inspired by the color blue.  Our sky here in the mountains can be very blue, sometimes oppressively blue for days on end, sometimes beautifully blue.

Call 3: Art is a 4-Letter Word

Works that explore the concept of “Critical Music” as defined by G. Douglas Barrett in the 2016 book, After Sound, Toward a Critical Music.

Call 4: Open Call

Any length, any piece.  2 channels only.

Please send your submissions by email to music2017@vusymposium.org

Due May 30, 2017 at Midnight.

Please include:

your name

your city, state, country

a brief description of the work (<300 words)

your bio (<300 words)

a link to the audio file, or if it is not created yet, audio links to past works.

VU 2 is a sound and music focused day, all works will be performed by two speakers in a large, dark concert hall, there will be no visuals, and pieces that require visuals will not be programmed.

VU strives to be as inclusive as possible and one of our goals is to provide a platform for potentially underrepresented musicians, so we hope that this Call For Music is spread as wide as possible.  Please share this call all over the world (internet) to anyone who produces compelling work that fits our focus.

If your work is selected for VU 2, your attendance in Park City for the concerts is not required.  Local musicians whose work is selected are expected to attend.  There will be a lot of coffee.

We do have a very small amount of free shared housing available to those attending from out of state, let us know if you’ll be here!

All submissions due May 30, 2017, at midnight.

Our selections committee for 2017 is TBA.

THANK you!!
